BURGAW, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Pender County approved spending another $200,000 to help build a campus of Cape Fear Community College in Surf City.
CFCC President Ted Spring addressed commissioners at their meeting on Monday, saying a budget deficit of about $210,000 is threatening completion of a building and access road to the Alston W. Burke campus.
Commissioner Jimmy Tate made a motion, approved by the board, to contribute $100,000 from this year's budget and another $100,000 from next year's budget. Commissioners had previously contributed $100,000 from the 2008-2009 budget year.
Also during Monday's meeting, commissioners also tabled two resolutions to ban tobacco products and E-Cigarettes within 50 feet of county buildings and on all county-owned property. They want the county manager to come back with a recommendation.
Commissioners later approved a resolution allowing the county manager to enter into agreements for productions to film on county-owned property.
For filming done outside, companies will be charged $1,000 per day, and for filming interior shots, the charge will increase to $2,500 a day.
