BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials with Bladen County Commissions will discuss awarding an economic incentive grant to Gildan Yarns at their meeting Monday night.
Gildan Yarns, which already employs 122 people in the county, is asking for the incentive in order to expand its existing business in Bladen County.
In order to receive the money, the company would have to start an expansion project within six months that represents an investment of at least $9 million in the county.
The company would also have to retain its existing employees, as well as create an additional 20 jobs in the county that pay a salary higher than the current average wage in the county. Currently, the average weekly wage in Bladen County is $595.
If all of the conditions are met, the county would pay the company .44 percent of the total new investment for the next five years. For example, if the company invested $12 million in the county, the company would receive around $50,000 each year.
