WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - All the attention and efforts put toward stopping the recent rise in Wilmington gang violence has many city leaders and law enforcement officials going to the drawing board for new ideas.
However, some organizations are staying true to the idea of being a friend, in order to be a solution.
The PAL program is the police athletic league, a group of WPD officers who dedicate time toward playing basketball and boding with at risk kids in the community. They partner with the Community and Brigade Boys and Girls Club to get the kids on the court every week.
The PAL program is seeking kids 8 to 10-years-old to join the free program.
Make sure you sign-up early and bring a good attitude.
The PAL Hoops program is always in need of positive role models for the youth as well.
Volunteers are needed as coaches, scorekeepers, referees, mentors, and more.
To make an impact call Officer Brandon Reece at 910-520-3852.
