NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County students will take part in Earthquake Preparedness Day Thursday morning.
The students will join others schools at 10:17 a.m. by participating in a safety drill called the "Great Southeast Shakeout."
The purpose of the exercise is to teach kids how to protect themselves during an earthquake.
The Great Shakeout was first held in California in 2008 and has since spread around the world.
