NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Child daycare subsidies in New Hanover County will continue throughout the month, according to County Manager Chris Coudriet.
Coudriet said in an email to commissioners Tuesday, "the Department of Social Services received an allocation from the state through a combination of unspent federal funds, Smart Start and other state dollars."
This means all eligible child daycare services for the month of October will be paid for in November.
According to Coudriet, federal and state money will also pay for children in foster care or receiving a daycare subsidy as part of child protective services and developmental needs through December 2013.
The initial stop-loss plan for New Hanover County impacted some 1,500 children receiving daycare subsidies.
Coudriet explained Tuesday the new allocation from the state will restore those services, through October at least.
According to the county manager, earlier action around adult daycare services and the suspension of federally funded service contracts at social services remain in effect.
Coudriet assures that county leaders are monitoring the stop-loss plan daily and will make adjustments as money becomes available.
