WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Funeral arrangements for a fire captain who died during a training exercise Monday at the Safety Training Center at Cape Fear Community College's North Campus have been announced, according to a New Hanover County spokesperson.
Fire Rescue Captain David Heath collapsed from an apparent heart attack, and colleagues immediately performed CPR, applied a defibrillator and used advanced life support measures.
There will be two memorial services for Heath: one will be in Wilmington, while the other will be in Concord.
The one in Wilmington is scheduled to take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at Port City Community Church, located at 250 Vision Drive.
After that service, firefighters will lead a procession as Heath's body is transported to Concord via Raleigh.
The Concord service is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Assembly, located at 150 Warren C. Coleman Blvd.
Honor guards planning to attend the service in Wilmington are asked to contact Captain Kevin Davis at (910) 358-1497. Organizers of fire apparatus who plan to attend are asked to be at the church at 11:30 a.m.
Honor guards and apparatus planning to attend the Concord service are asked to contact Shane Allred at (336) 471-2070, and are asked to be at the church by 1:30 p.m.
Heath was 48 years old.
Heath, a 10-year veteran, was assigned to the Professional Development Division, and worked out of Station 17 at 5901 Murrayville Road.
