BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Alabama head coach Nick Saban says the 1st half of Saturday's game against Kentucky was not as bad as many are making it out to be.

In the first quarter, Alabama saw two drives ended in the red zone by fumbles and the first score of the game came two minutes into the second quarter in the form of a field goal. Coach Saban did not appear fazed by the lack of touchdowns early in the game.

"We stopped ourselves the first three drives of the game. Dropped the third down wide open big play. Drove the ball twice into the red zone twice and fumbled it. We need to improve on those things. Not the kind of start you want to get, but we were still dominating the game," said Saban during his post game news conference. "We were dominating the line of scrimmage. People say ‘what happened early in the game?' Nothing happened early in the game, we fumbled the ball. That's what happened. We moved the it right down the field and we fumbled the ball."

The coach said he was proud of the team's effort, but says there is still much to improve on.

"If you want to be the best, you can't be satisfied with that. There's certainly some things we need to improve on. I was really proud of the way we dominated the line of scrimmage offensively. A.J. obviously had a really good game. Made a lot of plays. a lot of explosive plays passing. Dropped a few. Everybody's got to be accountable to do their role so we can be the best team we can be," said Saban.

Next week, Alabama hosts Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
