WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers and local clergy members met Thursday to talk about ways of reducing the amount of violent crimes happening around the Port City.

Peacemakers United is hosting the two day event designed to build safer communities. The event brings clergy, nonprofits, community relations officers, police, and university officials to speak about the impact of police and faith communities working to reduce crime.

Ironically, the first day of the conference was held the same day a New Hanover County Sheriff's Detective was shot.

The event continues Friday at the New Hanover County Executive Development Center located on the backside of the Northeast Library on Military Cutoff Road.
