WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A firefighter in Wilmington who was terminated from his position earlier this year after being held in jail and ultimately cleared of sexual assault charges is back on the job.

Robert Hester, of Elizabethtown, was arrested in Virginia in the spring after reports of rape at a Hyatt Hotel.

He was terminated from the Wilmington Fire Department at that time because of a violation of the city's attendance policy.

According to Battalion Chief David Hines, Hester was reinstated to his previous position with no back pay as the result of a civil service hearing that took place Wednesday.

Hester had worked for the city since November 2000 and was stationed at the Seagate Fire Station.
