WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Betty Cameron, a well-known community benefactor and philanthropist will be laid to rest Thursday afternoon. Cameron died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 92 years old.
Cameron's legacy will live on throughout Wilmington. Through a $2 million donation in 2008, her name appears on the Women's and Children's hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
In the 1970s, Cameron started a group called Women in Action, designed to improve race relations in the Port City.
Her children say she always had a passion for equality and being inclusive of people from all walks of life.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cameron will be held Thursday at 1:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.
