SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - Town leaders in Southport have finally announced their new city manager.

After months of searching, the Board of Aldermen announced on Tuesday night that Kerry McDuffie will take the position. The board approved the decision with a 5-0 vote.

Pat Thomas left the position open in February to take a job in Greensboro, NC.

Then, Interim City Manager, Rob Gandy took over and has been serving since then.

McDuffie has a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from Appalachian State University. He will make an annual salary of $75,000.

He also brings over 15 years of municipal experience including nine years as the Town Administrator for the Town of Fremont, North Carolina.

Mayor Robert Howard says he hopes McDuffie will be able to start in November.
