WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Adult Day Services in Wilmington will be open on Monday, despite an announcement from New Hanover County Commissioners that funding to the facility was set to cease due to the government shutdown.

Jennifer Riker, operator of Adult Day Services, sent out a press release Sunday explaining the future of the facility.

"I cannot allow our politicians to take away these services," said Riker's release.  "I know my mother, Betty Ann Sanders, would vigorously oppose anything that would jeopardize the care of the clients that have been entrusted to us."

Riker said she plans on attending the county commissioner's meeting Monday evening.
