WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A fashion show and gown swap raised money for Raising Raiders, a charity that benefits children and spouses of military members.
Raising Raiders was founded by military wives to provide grants that will empower the family members of MARSOC Marines and Sailors. The grants can be used for military spouses who want to continue their education or to help their children with educational opportunities.
In advance of the upcoming United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball, the group held this event to give women a chance to find a new gown for the event, without breaking the bank.
To take home a gown, all ladies had to do was bring one they were willing to swap.
Once the women were given the go ahead, they converged on the dresses and clamored to grab gowns. It was reminiscent of the crush of brides that take part in the running of the brides at Filene's Basement.
