OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Two South Carolina residents were arrested recently in Oak Island after a drunken fight involving a steak knife landed one in the hospital, a police report shows.

According to that report, Kevin Schmidt and Melissa Holder, both of Barnwell County, SC, have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

The two were staying at a hotel on Oak Island over the weekend when they began to fight.

They allegedly both started to slap each other before Schmidt proceeded to pick up a five-inch steak knife and hit Holder on the head with it. Holder then reportedly picked up the knife and stabbed Schmidt in the stomach.

Afterward, she went outside and threw the knife on the roof of the hotel, which the Oak Island Fire Department had to later retrieve there.

Holder was arrested on scene while Schmidt was taken to the hospital to be treated, and then taken to jail.
