WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an apparent homicide that happened late Tuesday night in the 1200 block of Lilac Court, near 12th and Greenfield Streets.
Police have identified the victim as 51-year-old Angelo Freeman.
According to officials, a neighbor saw Freeman's door open early Wednesday morning and walked in to find him unconscious in the home. The neighbor walked in the house to check on the man because he says Freeman had a stroke in the past.
Police say Freeman died from three gunshot wounds that happened between 9:30 and 10:00 Tuesday night. Police say he was struck once in the leg, once in the chest, and it is unclear where the third bullet hit the victim.
Some neighbors were surprised to hear the news and said they didn't hear anything, while another said they heard a "ruckus" going on Tuesday night.
Authorities said it does not look like someone broke into the house and nothing was stolen.
