WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Domestic Violence Awareness Month is held each year during October.

The Domestic Violence Advocacy Council and Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. will host a series of events to raise awareness throughout the month.

The series of events will kick off Tuesday morning with a Silent Witness Exhibit at Innes Park, located on Third Street adjacent to City Hall.

Advocates, family members and area officials will gather from 10:30-10:45 a.m. to remember women in North Carolina who were killed by an intimate partner.

According to a news release, the Silent Witness Exhibit will include life-size representations of those whose lives were taken.

Later this week, the 24th annual Take Back the Night March will be held in Riverfront Park Thursday night.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. with a march through downtown Wilmington and will end with a rally in front of the Alton Lennon Federal Building.

During the event, Dr. Tim Markley will talk about the importance of early intervention through education and prevention efforts.
