WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Several intersections in Wilmington that were closed for much of Friday afternoon going into the evening are back open after a massive structure fire at a business.
Intersections near Oleander Drive and Greenville Loop Road were shut down as multiple fire crews worked to contain flames at 6329 Oleander Drive.
Fire officials say the fire was finally deemed under control just before 7 p.m., but crews remained on scene as investigators looked to determine the cause of the fire, which has yet to be announced.
According to Battalion Chief Sammy Flowers with the Wilmington Fire Department, an off-duty Wilmington Fire Captain was driving home from work and saw smoke coming through the ridge vents on the roof.
The fire captain immediately called 911, saying it was, "a priority for all units." He then entered the building to help everyone evacuate.
All people inside the building made it outside safely with no injuries.
