WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) unanimously supports a second access to the Love Grove community.
Members of the MPO passed a resolution in favor of creating a second way in and out of the neighborhood located north of North 11th Street.
A train derailment essentially cut off the community from the rest of Wilmington in June.
City council member Earl Sheridan, who represents Wilmington in the MPO, said it was important for the regional transportation board to be on record in support of the new plan.
There are several routes proposed for the new street, but the resolution does not favor one over the other.
City staff and CSX employees are currently working out the location, cost, and other details for the project. Former council member Ron Sparks presented a plan to council in July that estimated the project cost at $3.4 million.
