WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Wilmington man faces charges after being accused of assaulting a hotel desk clerk and stealing her cell phone.
Police say 34-year-old William Antwan Patterson was charged Monday with common law robbery, assault on a female and kidnapping.
On Aug. 9, police say they responded to a call regarding a dispute at the Baymont Inn on South College Road. Upon arrival, desk clerks told them that a homeless man, Patterson, came to the front desk asking for a washcloth.
When they refused to give him one, he reportedly hid in the laundry room. When he was discovered there, he got into an argument with the desk clerks and tried to lock them in an office.
Patterson then allegedly punched one of the women in the face and fled with her cell phone. Witnesses say he also threatened to shoot the clerks, but never showed a gun.
He remains in jail under a $150,000 bond.
