LELAND, NC (WECT) - A Leland police officer is on paid administrative leave while authorities investigate the circumstances that resulted in a DWI charge against the officer this past weekend in Pender County.

Town Manager David Hollis tells WECT.com that Officer Ryan O'Connor was working with the Brunswick County Northside Task Force Friday, when he got injured.  O'Connor was serving a warrant, when he slipped, fell and hit his head, according to Hollis.

The next day, O'Connor was pulled over in Pender County for driving erratically while in an undercover police vehicle.

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers administered a breathalyzer on O'Connor and it showed all zeroes, according to Hollis. Troopers took O'Connor to the hospital, because they first thought it was a medical issue. It was determined that O'Connor had a concussion. He was cited for DWI.

Hollis says O'Connor's license was suspended for thirty days.
