WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Environmental Protection Agency officials announced plans to begin a Superfund hazardous substance removal at the P&W Waste Oil Superfund Site Friday, according to a news release from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Officials say the removal action is a short-term cleanup intended to stabilize and clean up a site that poses a threat to human health and environment. The facility is not operational, and waste oil at the facility contains high concentrations of PCBs and heavy metals.
The removal is taking place under the authority and direction of the EPA Region 4 Emergency Response and Removal Branch, according to the news release.
The site is located at 10518 Royster Rd. in Leland.
