WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Kure Beach Police Chief Dennis Cooper confirmed in a phone call that there might have never been a missing swimmer.
"According to witnesses on the pier, they thought they saw a woman go into the water but not come out," said Chief Cooper.
Cooper says they searched the night of the report and the morning after, but never found anyone.
"We have to err on the side of caution in these cases," said Chief Cooper.
New Hanover County Dispatch received a call of a missing swimmer at 7:00 p.m. Thursday September 19, who was last seen around 5:30 p.m. that day.
Emergency crews searched for the swimmer near 7 Seas Inn, 130 N. Fort Fisher Blvd. but never found anything.
