BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Brunswick County Sheriff's deputy has been fired following a bizarre incident involving her ex-husband, which resulted in his arrest.
Deputy Nikki Beresoff was fired last month, the day after authorities say her ex-husband publicly confronted her in a Shallotte restaurant with lewd cell phone pictures.
According to tips that have come into the WECT newsroom, this all stemmed from a sexting scandal involving other Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies.
The sheriff's department will not confirm or deny that, but did release a brief statement that read: "No adverse personnel actions have been taken against any deputy for inappropriate texting/emails."
An incident report from the Brunswick County magistrate indicates that Jeremy Beresoff, the 28-year-old ex-husband of Deputy Nikki Beresoff, confronted her inside an Andy's restaurant Aug. 13.
The report says Jeremy Beresoff showed her pictures of male genitalia, loudly asking her who the man in the picture was. Mr. Beresoff was then arrested for disorderly conduct and misdemeanor stalking.
The phone was seized, and his ex-wife was fired from her job at the sheriff's office the next day.
The sheriff's office has not elaborated on why Deputy Beresoff was fired - only that it was at the discretion of the sheriff. We have been unable to reach Jeremy Beresoff for comment, but someone claiming to be Nikki contacted us online late Wednesday afternoon, saying this was not a department-wide sexting scandal. She said it stemmed from a relationship between her and one other deputy.
