BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The rain fell, the rivers flooded, and Chuck Thurlow responded. Thurlow left Brunswick County today joined the American Red Cross in Colorado.
Thurlow has been a volunteer for the American Red Cross for more than nine years. He has helped with some of the worst natural disasters in the time, including Superstorm Sandy.
Joining more than 250 volunteers in Colorado, Thurlow says he doesn't know what to expect when he arrives. He is serving as the Government Liaison for the Red Cross, and will coordinate with nonprofit organizations, as well as, government organizations to provide resources for the flood victims.
Despite the horrible situation Thurlow says he is happy to help. "Whether it be Sandy, whether it be the tornadoes in Oklahoma, I'm just happy that we have a nonprofit organization that's ready and willing and able to put so many volunteers on the ground to respond to them," said Thurlow.
Thurlow will be in working in Colorado for the next two weeks helping with the Red Cross. He says he volunteers because he hopes others would do the same if our area faced similar circumstances.
