FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WECT/WNCN) – A Fayetteville woman was killed Monday in the Navy Yard shooting in Washington, WNCN reports.
Mary DeLorenzo Knight was reportedly a civilian contractor at the Navy Yard. The 51-year-old lived in Virginia and commuted to Washington, where she'd worked for about five years.
She taught classes at Northern Virginia Community College.
WNCN spoke to Knight's parents, who are are struggling with their loss. Knight's father said, "We have to deal with it."
The suspected gunman, 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, is said to have killed 12 people before dying in a gun battle with police. He had a valid pass to access the yard, according to the FBI.
