A new Pew Research poll shows that four out of every 10 people who will be required to get health insurance next year under the new federal Affordable Care Act, don't even know they have to do so.
The government is spending a lot of money to spread the word -- $3 million in North Carolina alone.
That money is to hire what they call "navigators" to help provide in-person assistance with signing up, starting next month. Fourteen nonprofits got this money, and our investigative reporters found out only one has an office in our area: Legal Aid of North Carolina. And they're still figuring out how they're going to provide this assistance.
At this point, it looks like folks in some of our rural counties are going to have to travel quite a bit to get help. I shouldn't be surprised. It's the federal government we're talking about here.
But Obamacare is on the way, days away now, and I hope it doesn't turn into a debacle that can't repaired.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
