Holyoke mayor mourns loss of 2 friends in crash

HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) - Holyoke's mayor is mourning the loss of 2 friends who died in a weekend car crash.

Mayor Alex Morse says Moira Murphy and Brian Callahan, both 23, were killed in the crash at about 2 a.m. Sunday. Police say their vehicle was struck by another vehicle that allegedly ran a red light.

Two other people in the victim's vehicle were injured.

The Republican (http://bit.ly/1bmrXtq ) reports that the driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old Jonathan Lopez of Springfield, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. Police say Lopez and his passenger had left the scene by the time officers arrived.

Morse mourned his friends on his Facebook page.

It was not clear if Lopez had a lawyer and the investigation is ongoing.
