WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Changes are coming to some unemployment offices in North Carolina, including one in Columbus County.
The unemployment office in Whiteville will soon go through a merger. Workers in the Whiteville office recently moved into a new building, and with the merger, they could be forced to relocate.
According to Charles Garrett with the Department of Commerce Division of Work Force Solution in Whiteville, by the end of the year, his department will consolidate with another office that does similar work.
Garrett says that none of his employees will lose their jobs, and the merger will give clients more resources and allow them to do more things on their own.
We're told a few unemployment offices around the state were selected to merge with other agencies.
The regional manager for the Department of Commerce Division of Work Force Solution says that a few unemployment offices around the state were selected to merge with other agencies.
WECT is still waiting to hear from a spokesperson from the state to learn why mergers are taking place and if any other unemployment offices in our region will be affected.
