NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy returned to work Monday after an internal investigation cleared him of any wrongdoing, according to Sgt. Jerry Brewer.

Deputy Josh Cranford, 27, was placed on administrative leave in August after reportedly shooting 23-year-old Darius Hester in the arm when Hester pointed his gun at Cranford and attempted to shoot him.

As a result, Hester was charged with attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

Despite Cranford returning to work, an SBI investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
