I got some great news this week from a group trying to pay back some of our veterans who fought for our country, and then didn't get treated so well upon their return to America.
The local chapter of Vietnam Veterans has successfully completed a fundraising initiative to send a group of veterans to Washington, D.C. on a bus trip for the Healing Wall Tour in early October.
The idea is similar to the Honor Flight we featured on WECT several times in recent years, in which World War II veterans were flown to D.C. for the day to visit their memorial.
Recently, there have also been some steps to try to honor Vietnam veterans. It's long overdue, and only a drop in the bucket compared to what they deserve.
For those attending the Healing Wall Tour, you now have evidence that many people cared about your service enough to contribute to this worthy endeavor. And I hope this trip to D.C. provides you with some feelings of honor and respect you truly deserve.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
