RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Black leaders at the North Carolina General Assembly want more answers from the state Department of Health and Human Services about delays in Medicaid payments and food stamps, high pay for contractors and a host of other agency issues.

Members of the Legislative Black Caucus held a news conference Wednesday in which they released a letter sent by its chairman with dozens of questions for Gov. Pat McCrory and HHS
Secretary Dr. Aldona Wos (vahsh). They say they've felt left out of communications between Wos and the legislature and are concerned about her agency's actions.

Sen. Earline Parmon of Winston-Salem says she's particularly worried about constituents who say they've not received food stamps. She says the delays are related to a new HHS computer program determining eligibility for government services.
