COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Chief of Police in Fair Bluff has resigned after little more than a year with the department.
Justin Hewett said he resigned to better his career and have more time with family. He and the mayor came to the decision.
"Fulfilling my obligation to make the town safer is something I tried to do to the best of my ability," he said.
He's accepted a position with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office. Hewett said Richard Chaney is the new acting chief effective Sunday.
