WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new, original play called Chat Room is premiering at the Brown Coat Pub and Theatre. It's written by local thespian Ron Hasson.
It centers around the demon of lust who has been in a coma for 40 years. A former minion happens upon him and wakes him up.
"He's charged with the moral degradation of the human race, and he has a lot of fun with it," said actor Craig Kittner.
The demon now has to deal with a new world, involving social media, the internet, and tricky love problems.
"It definitely has a message about the internet and the effect of social media on relationships. That's definitely a prevalent theme underneath the comedy. The comedy is on top, but that definitely runs through it."
Because the play has never been performed before, the actors are the first to interpret their characters.
"Just to know that I have a free reign to do whatever, and playing a non-human is interesting because you don't have to worry about human reactions, they're demonic reactions," said Kittner. "It's an opportunity for the folks who come to see this to see something that's never been seen before and hasn't been seen in New York, hasn't been seen in London and it'll give a lot of those shows a run for their money."
