A suspect has been arrested after a Seneca County Sheriff's dispatcher says he was shooting near firefighters and sheriff's deputies at the scene of a house fire.
The fire broke out just before 2 p.m. on County Road 29 in Seneca County, about 2 miles south of Bellevue. When they arrived at the scene, they were confronted by a man who fired a gun several times into the air.
Police arrested Lloyd Hicks, 72, after negotiating with him for about an hour to give up his gun. During that time, the ranch-style home was destroyed by the fire. Firefighters were kept at a distance for safety, and were unable to douse the flames.
Hicks told police he set the fire and tried to drag his wife inside following a domestic dispute. He is now in the Seneca County Jail and charges against him are pending.
Hicks' wife was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.
