TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Police say three Arizona State University fraternity brothers have been arrested in connection with a Labor Day fight that left a member of another ASU fraternity savagely beaten.

Police said Harsimrandeep Bhatti, 19, and Joshua Drew James, 21, were arrested Wednesday for one count of unlawful imprisonment.

On Tuesday, Kiernan Bates, 19, of Tempe, was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on a felony aggravated assault charge and unlawful imprisonment.

Authorities said the suspects are members of ASU's Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and the victim is believed to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious facial and head injuries as the suspects fled after the fight broke out early Monday morning at The District Apartments, an off-campus complex at 977 E. Apache Blvd., Tempe police said.

Tempe police said the victim tried to get free but was pulled into the elevator and attacked.

Officers said a woman who lives in the building went to use the elevator around 1 a.m. Monday and found the man left for dead.

Police said the injured man was combative and cited for minor consumption of alcohol. The following day, the victim's parents became involved after seeing the severity of their son's injuries, according to investigators.

The victim's identity has not been released. One of his facial injuries has required his jaw be wired shut.

The victim told police he could not remember anything about the incident or who was involved, according to a court document.

Police said surveillance video showed several people confronted the victim on the first floor and walked with him to the elevator.

Three men are observed on the video trying to corral the victim, and used force to get him into the elevator, a court document stated.

The surveillance video showed two men then stepped into the elevator with the victim and the door closed.

When the elevator stopped on the third floor, a witness told police she saw two men with blood on their hands standing over the victim who was injured and lying on the floor.

During a photographic line-up, the witness identified one of the suspects as Bates.

The witness described the other suspect as between 19 to 20 years old with a thin to medium build. The suspect is between 5'9" to 5'10" tall with straight brown hair and was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt.

The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity based in Memphis, TN, sent CBS 5 News the following statement:

The International Fraternity has been made aware of an alleged dispute involving three members of the Arizona State University Colony.

"The incident in question did not occur at a sanctioned Fraternity event. The Fraternity was informed that the incident occurred at an off-campus apartment complex at an event organized by its residents.

"All individuals involved in this incident as well as the Colony leadership are cooperating fully with the police and university investigations. In the interim, the individuals allegedly involved in the altercation have been administratively suspended by the Colony, pending the outcome of the police and university investigations.

"The Fraternity takes allegations of this nature seriously as they are contrary to the Standards of Pi Kappa Alpha and will follow its established policies and procedures as more facts are made available."
