News Release from UNCW Athletics:

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW has vaulted into the national men's soccer rankings after winning a pair of games en route to the Wolstein Classic championship over the weekend at Ohio State.

The Seahawks opened the new season with successive victories over the Buckeyes (2-1, OT) and Cincinnati (1-0). As a result, Coach Aidan Heaney's team is ranked 24th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

The Seahawks return to the national rankings for the first time since Oct. 9, 2010, when Heaney's club checked in at No. 24. UNCW opened at No. 23 that season before falling to 25th-ranked Old Dominion, 1-0, in October to drop out of the rankings.

UNCW has been ranked as high as No. 18 when it reached the second round of the 2009 NCAA tournament.

Tenth-ranked California and 18th-ranked UAB joined UNCW as the only newcomers to move into the top-25.

The Seahawks made the national list following an impressive 2-1 overtime win at Ohio State and a 1-0 shutout over Cincinnati in Columbus, Ohio.

Sophomore Colin Bonner was named Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week after scoring twice against Ohio State and earning Wolstein Classic Most Valuable Player honors.

UNCW makes its home debut this weekend by staging the ninth edition of the Hilton Garden Inn Classic. The Seahawks play Presbyterian on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then battle Mercer on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
