WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department is bringing attention to a handful of unsolved murder cases in the Wilmington community.
Each month the agency will feature a group of unsolved cases in hopes of gathering new information to bring the cases to a close.
It was the first murder of 2013 inside Wilmington City Limits.
Raman Liadi, 25, was found lying on the ground near the Houston Moore public housing community March 21. The hard-working young man had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Police said the shot spotter system picked up the gunfire around 12:15 a.m.
A resident said his fiancé heard gunshots and woke him up. He went outside worried it was his son, who had not come home from work yet.
The man said he saw Liadi on the ground alive and asked him if he was okay. The man said Liadi looked at him and witnesses flagged down an officer.
Witnesses told authorities they saw someone running from Houston Moore towards the Village at Greenfield. Others said they heard multiple gunshots being fired and later saw two people wearing black hooded sweatshirts running away from the area where shots were fired.
Family members are still looking for answers more than two years after Tony Leon Harris, Jr. was shot and killed. He was 16 at the time. Those closes to him called him TJ.
On June 30, 2011, officers found Harris unresponsive and lying on the front porch of a home on North Fifth Avenue. The teen was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Harris' mother told police her son had left around 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. to get her grill from an unknown location and never came home.
