Earlier this month, officials in Pender County apologized for the possible delays to those in their area, posting a release on the government website.
Administrators at the Department of Social Services say the delays are caused by employees learning how to use the new system, and also by the system itself.
They say that it moves slowly, sometimes freezing for as long as several days. When they system is frozen, it forces them to wait to enter in clients' food stamp applications, renewals and even changes.
Officials say they are working as hard as they can to make sure people get their benefits as quickly as possible and are working overtime and even on Saturdays to do all they can for their clients.
