For the first time, CBS 5 is hearing from the mother of 3-month-old Jamison Gray.
"He was my everything. I loved being a mommy," Rebecca Hillary said sobbingly.
She says words can't describe what she is feeling.
"He was a very happy boy. He was always such a good boy. He loved to smile, He just loved to smile, and play and bounce," she added emotionally.
Just as she was bravely speaking out, the baby's father, 31-year-old Daniel Gray had his initial appearance Friday morning on manslaughter and child abuse charges.
"Do I get to say anything," Gray asked the judge at the conclusion of the hearing. The judge responded, "Not at this time. I've appointed an attorney to represent you. The microphone records everything you say."
CBS 5 News also obtained the police report that details what detectives say happened the day baby Jamison died. It says Daniel Gray initially denied abusing drugs and alcohol on Wednesday, the day of the incident.
But then on Thursday, police interviewed a kitchen employee at the restaurant Daniel Gray managed, the B.T. Sports Pub. That employee says they first saw Daniel smoking marijuana in the cooler on Wednesday with a brand new employee. Then later, the witness said they saw Daniel and the new employee standing in front of Daniel's car with the baby inside and assumed they were smoking marijuana again.
Thursday night, Daniel Gray was arrested at his north Phoenix apartment. Meanwhile, even through tears, Rebecca Hillary and her uncle Rob Straney expressed appreciation for those who have already come to their side.
"I want to thank everybody who's donated towards helping my baby boy's funeral. Ike Basha, Fry's, AJ's, the Basha family," Rebecca said.
"Donations be they large or small are equally appreciated, as are even just words of support on the memorial blog," her uncle added.
The judge set bond at $100,000 for Gray. If he is able to get out, he will have to wear an electronic ankle monitor, be on house arrest, and not have any unsupervised contact with any child.
