NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover County School Board is in the midst of revising its ethics policy and the proposed changes could affect school system employees in romantic relationships with each other.
We are getting conflicting reports about what prompted the review of the ethics policy. One school board member tells us they are simply trying to bring New Hanover County Schools' ethics policy in line with the state school system's ethics guidelines. But another school board member said a romantic relationship in the central office prompted a policy review.
New fraternization guidelines will be considered by the school board's policy committee next month. The new school policy could include a ban on romantic relationships between school employees and people they supervise.
The exact language for the fraternization policy is still being drafted by the school system's attorney, but will be available for review in a couple of weeks.
