BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County Board of Education approved the 2013-2014 budget Tuesday. The approved budget gives all full-time employees a $1,000 bonus. It also gives part-time employees a pro-rated amount.
The budget calls for an increase to the supplement schedule for teachers, assistant principals, elementary, and middle school principals.
"We are losing outstanding teachers," said Board of Education Chairman Charles Miller, justifying the increase. "If the one-time bonus and supplement schedule revision can help keep them in our classrooms, it is worth every penny."
"The Board and I are delighted to provide a small but well deserved bonus to a very hardworking and dedicated group of employees," said Superintendent Edward Pruden. "The bonus in no way mitigates the need for significant and permanent increases to teacher salaries," said Pruden.
According to a press release, teachers and employees will receive their bonuses in November.
