WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wave Transit is in the process of putting up a new shelter at the bus stop on 17th St., in front of Halyburton Park.
Officials say the shelter was badly damaged and had to be taken down after a vehicle hit it.
Two lawn chairs now sit where the bench once was; however, Wave representatives say they don't know where the chairs came from.
Those who use the bus stop say it's nice to have a place to sit down, but they miss the shade.
"It gets really hot. I think I'll have to wear shorts next time. It's really hot and I hope they rebuild the shelter and give us shade soon," said Maddy Estep, a bus rider.
Wave says putting in a new shelter is on the five-year plan, but they can't get started on it until they get the funding.
