Around 1:30 p.m., a utility company was working in the area, and had cones set up for visibility. The workers were standing in a right turn lane, trying to track an underground line, when a car approached and hit two of the workers. PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a car hit two utility workers at Hwy. 17 and Sloop Point Loop Road.

Templar Incorporated, a company that does fiber optic installations, was working in the area and had cones set up for visibility.

The crew was standing in a right turn lane, trying to track an underground line, when a car approached and hit two of the workers.

Jereme Alan Holt, 40, of Burlington, was killed in the accident. The other victim refused treatment and is okay.

According to Highway Patrol Trooper Casteen, Floyd Edward Osborne, of Wilmington, entered the right lane, but didn't plan on turning right when the accident happened.

Casteen said Osborne was charged in connection to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and lane violation.
