NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - Law enforcement officers across the state will be looking for people drinking on the water and the road during the Labor Day holiday.
The "On the Road, On the Water, Don't Drink and Drive" campaign is beginning.
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission will head up the water patrols. The State Highway Patrol will monitor the roadways, and the Alcohol Law Enforcement division will enforce underage drinking laws.
Local police and sheriff's offices will also participate.
Boat operators can be charged if their blood alcohol concentration is .08 or higher, or if they are impaired by alcohol or drugs. The penalties for operating while impaired in North Carolina include a maximum $1,000 fine and possible jail time.
