WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A man was cited Sunday afternoon in Wrightsville Beach after jumping off of Johnnie Mercer's Pier.
According to Cpl. Rich with Wrightsville Beach Police Department, Donald Evans jumped off of the pier. Rich said Evans was brought back into shore on the rescue surfboard, and cited with a civil penalty for jumping off the pier. His brother, Rendell Evans, was also arrested for resist, delay and obstruct a public officer, and being intoxicated and disruptive.
According to Rich, Donald said he was trying to take a photo for Facebook when he accidentally fell into the water. Rich said witnesses claimed that Evans was dared to jump, though.
Rich said Evans is physically OK and refused EMS transport to the hospital.
