BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A deputy with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has been arrested and is now facing several charges.

The sheriff's office drug enforcement unit arrested Timothy Paul Caulder, from Shallotte. He's facing two charges of soliciting crimes against nature, two counts of soliciting prostitution and one count of willfully failing to discharge duties.

The charges stem from a two week internal investigation by the department's internal affairs division that referred the investigation to drug investigators.

According to arrest warrants, Deputy Caulder solicited the same woman on two separate occasions in the month of August. According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, the woman listed in the arrest warrants was not charged.

"We, as law enforcement officers, are not above the law.  We will not tolerate anyone from this agency to abuse their position," Sheriff John Ingram said in a statement released late Friday afternoon.

The sheriff's office fired him immediately. He was hired as a detention center deputy in December 2011 and he is now on the other side of the cell, under a $2,500 bond.
