NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A fishing charter to celebrate one military man's impending nuptials brought in a big catch - a 14 foot tiger shark!
The bachelor party was a group from Camp Lejeune on a Fish Hook Charter boat about six miles off the shore of North Myrtle Beach.
Richard Long with Fish Hook Charters says the men used a "Rod and Reel" method and bonita fish to catch the 700 pound shark on Saturday, August 17.
Richard says they have never caught a shark this big before.
The world record Tiger shark was caught near the Cherry Grove Pier in 1964. That shark weighed in at over 1,700 pounds.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports tiger sharks are 1 of the top three types of sharks involved in unprovoked fatal shark attacks.
