WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Police in Wilmington said the suspect involved in a deadly traffic wreck Thursday afternoon was also behind an arson in the city.
According to Captain Jeff Allsbrook, the two incidents happened within an hour of one another.
The cyclist was killed Thursday after being hit by a vehicle, according to officers who responded to the accident.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Fourth and Greenfield Streets around 11:30 Thursday morning. Police haven't released the name of the victim.
The fire was set on Hunt Club Rd. No one was hurt.
Police said the suspect in both cases is currently in treatment at the hospital. She has not been charged yet. Allsbrook said it is likely she will be charged with first degree arson, among other charges.
Authorities won't say specifically how the suspect sparked the fire, other than it was caused by an intentional open flame.
