ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) – Authorities in Elizabethtown are investigating after a robbery and chase took place Tuesday night.
Police officers were dispatched to the Minuteman Convenience Store on South Poplar Street around 10:45 p.m., according to Police Chief Kinlaw. The caller stated that the suspect walked into the store and demanded money.
The suspect also indicated that he had a gun, but never showed one. He proceeded to grab money from the register and fled on foot across South Polar Street.
A deputy with the Bladen County Sheriff's Office was in the area and saw a vehicle quickly leaving a parking lot about a block away with no headlights on. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle and chased it to Gill Street and Kemp Street, about a half-mile away, where the driver stopped the car and fled on foot.
Officers seized the vehicle and are looking into leads.
The suspect involved is said to be a black male who was wearing a white tank top and blue denim shorts. He's said to be anywhere from 5'7" to 5'11'.
