NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Darius Hester appeared in court Tuesday after he was shot by a deputy last Friday.
Hester appeared in court with his right arm still in a sling after being released from the hospital Monday night.
Officials say Deputy Joshua Cranford shot Hester in the Castle Hayne area. Deputy Cranford is now on leave pending an investigation, according to protocol.
Hester is charged with attempted 1st degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
Judge Chad Hogston assigned a court appointed attorney, but Hester can still hire his own.
